Design Statement: The design for Ride The Cyclone embodies the cyclical nature of life and the way the world moves on when we pass. With the show's messages of life just being a ride that can end at any moment, we see a beautiful depiction of what the carnival once while simultaneously decaying in a controlled way that mimics fading stories of the teenagers. The surfaces are all of painted, faded wood and colorfully rusting metals. The lights in former ride pieces booths electrify back to life to bring ambient light back to the carnival remnants to help add both a mystical element as well as visual interest to the individual stories that all demand different energies. The inclusion of a linear strip of theatrical bulbs framing the stage will tie in the game show/theatrical nature of Karnak’s game. We are rejecting the original direction for this to take place in a warehouse and instead are going for a ghost void of what once was a happy country fair.
